Golf Report

The team hosted our second match at The Bell Hotel and Country Club better known as The Forest of Dean Golf Club, against Gloucestershire Golf Section, now if you haven’t had the pleasure of playing this course it is well worth a visit, the last time I played there was many years ago, and the changes made to the course have in my opinion made a very big different with some challenging holes and open fairways to suit all golfers.

Herefordshire Golf Team

Although the weather wasn’t the best with grey and overcast sky’s we commenced our rounds of golf,  as Gloucester could only field 9 team members, we were fortunately able to loan them one of our best; well done Roger Powell, to even up the numbers.

Things brightened up later despite a short heavy shower shortly after we had teed off but  it didn’t dampen our enthusiasm and we managed to get round without any further problems in that department.

Particular mention should be made to two members who won their match 9-8 thank you Gareth Milford and Richard Butler of Vitruvian Lodge, hope you can make the next few matches, Captain Des Watkins lost 2 down, (but Des did win the longest drive) but Vice Captain Alistair Ross was victorious 6-5. The match overall was drawn two and a half each, so a fair result and reflection of the manner in which it was played.

Our compliments to the catering staff at The Bells, for a very enjoyable meal after the match.

At the meal after and during the drinks prior everyone expressed the view that these matches are important  to help build relationships between Provinces and meet likeminded Brethren to enjoy our golf and be able to have a laugh.

We have our next match which is an invitation from South Wales to what has become an annual event at Coed  Y Mwstwr Golf Club near Bridgend on Wednesday 13th July 2022 this is a charity fund raiser so every little helps, cost is £25 per person  with golf, food included and a donation to a charity of choice.

We do not meet again the until August  4th when we visit Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club  in the annual triangular match against Shropshire and Worcestershire, so if any new members would like to get involved they can contact Dave Gwynne
