Alfgar

Royal Edward Lodge and the other orders using the Leominster Masonic Centre have been involved in giving a donation towards the “Leominster in Bloom” project. They have also given permission for a plaque to be fixed to the building to commemorate the “Battle of Battle Bridge”. This incident took place just outside the LMC, and involved a 11th century Earl by the name of Alfgar, who with his Welsh allies was victorious in the battle. They then went on to sack Hereford, burning the church and monastery, with the relics of St Ethelbert, but subsequently being defeated by Harold, who became King of England.

On the 29th June we held our annual Charity Open Morning. Seven local charities attended. They were: Megan Baker House, Aida Trust, Leominster Meeting Centre, Kyre Riding for the Disabled, Echo, Leominster Town Minors U11s and Finley Amos.

Megan Baker House provides conductive education sessions for children and adults with various Motor disorders, such as cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s and strokes.

Aida Trust provides social get together sessions for local disabled adults, mainly in the Leominster area.

Leominster Meeting Centre are involved with adults suffering from dementia.

Kyre Riding for the Disabled sets out to provide riding experience for disabled children, similar to the organization at Home Lacey, but in the North of the County.

Echo does similar work to the Aida Trust, and they often work together in the Leominster area. Their aim is to provide facilities for disabled people, during the day and in the evenings, over six days and four evenings each week.

Leominster Town Minors U11s football team is run by Christina Howard. Her main aim is to provide an interest for many disaffected youngsters in Leominster, and help to keep them out of trouble, and have a new purpose in life.

A local four year old boy who contracted sepsis and meningitis, and as a result he has lost a large part of his feet and hands. He is in desperate need of a tricycle to give him some form of mobility.

These worthy causes have received a total of £3,000 from Royal Edward Lodge. A further £650 will go to the HMCA B Fund, Tunnard Moore Golf, both of which support local charities, and Teddies for Loving Care.
