Tri-Angular Match v Worcestershire and Shropshire – Bromsgrove Golf Centre

Our last golf match of the season was held on 19 of August 2026, at Bromsgrove Golf Centre, against the local Provinces of Shropshire and Worcestershire.

The course was very dry and a real challenge for all taking part. The outcome was very close with Herefordshire scoring 224 points against Shropshire’s 221 so a win and retention of the trophy for us, not so against Worcestershire who had a score of 227 and retained that game trophy and that of Shropshire.

Top scorers for Hereford were Cain Wellings, Vice Captain, with 34 points; David Griffiths, Captain, with 33, and Des Watkins with 32.

A big thank you to our team of eight this year and we’ll look forward to a larger attendance next year when we are the hosts. The match will be held at Burghill Valley on Wednesday 4 August 2027 11am tee.

Annual Provincial Championship and Open – Leominster Golf Club

Ten golfers took part in the Annual Provincial Championships and Open at Leominster Golf Club on Sunday 6 September, followed by Sunday lunch including wives and partners.

The course played well, though the greens were a challenge and difficult to read. It was a good day, with everyone enjoying the occasion to get out and play on a Sunday and, unlike previous years, it wasn’t raining.

A good thing about this Open was that the wives, partners and friends are invited to attend, so we had eighteen in attendance for the meal.

There were three trophies up for grabs:

• Best Gross won by Des Watkins with 85
• Best Net, Dave Gwynne with 69
• Best Stableford, David Griffiths with 35 points.

We only had one guest so Sabatio the hairdresser was the winner of Best Guest. Thank you for your support.

I will be looking at some away days locally, so will circulate when we can get a good deal and before the winter sets in.
