Service has always been a core principle of Freemasonry, and we take pride in our 300-year history of actively supporting those in need.
Our members play a crucial role at local, national, and global levels each year, dedicating both their time and resources to make a tangible difference to various organisations and communities.
Freemasonry stands out as one of the largest contributors to charitable causes in the country, with a noteworthy almost £1 million donated per week. Beyond monetary contributions, our members actively engage in volunteer work, making a significant impact in our communities.
Locally, our members engage in many activities including community fundraising and volunteering, as well as a varied programme of events where spouses, partners and families are welcome. We’ve made substantial donations across Herefordshire to local charities including first responders, food banks and hospices. We also offer assistance at local charitable events including a number run by St Michael’s Hospice, the 2024 Poppy Appeal for the Royal British Legion and other charitable events for veterans.
Freemasonry does a huge amount for medical research into treatments for cancer, diabetes, heart disease and a whole range of other conditions, including Alzheimer’s, by funding UK medical scientists to make ground breaking discoveries.

A hospital visit can be a frightening experience for a young child, especially in an emergency situation.
Teddies for Loving Care (TLC) is a way of providing much-needed comfort to children in A&E departments, helping to reduce the shock and distress of their experience. Every child that receives a teddy gets to take it home.
Supported by Freemasons.
TLC is locally managed by Freemasons who also volunteer their time to run the scheme. Since its inception in 2001, 3.5 million teddies have been distributed to hospitals throughout England and Wales.

THE ROYAL MASONIC BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION
THE Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution Care Company (RMBI) is part of the Masonic Charitable Foundation – a charity for Freemasons, for families, for everyone.
Caring has been our way of life since 1842 and we provide a home for more than 1,000 people across England and Wales in 18 care homes – while supporting many more.
